Blessing

    2. (noun) Invocation of divine care. 
    3. (noun) The acts or words of one who blesses.

 It was Christmas Eve 2005. We were in Paris. Gary's city. I was 5 months pregnant. Thick fat snow was falling in bushels. We, (seemingly) along with the whole city, were drawn to the bells of Notre Dame. We were there during mass and people were singing in countless languages; sharing air. To say there was standing room would be an exaggeration. Everyone wanted to be covered in the warm colored light saturating this place even in the frosty night. The only other illumination the prayers, extending their flickering fingers heavenward. Evan kissed the back of my hair. He dampened his fingers. Then silently, nearly imperceptibly, traced a cross over my belly. Father. Son. Holy Spirit.
