Expectation

1. (noun) Eager anticipation.
2. (noun) A belief that something will happen because it is likely. You might not believe me if I told you this is France, in December. Or that it was 34 degrees with bone piercing wind. Or that it was held by pirates. Or that most of the day you can walk to the island on the left. What did you expect? The Eiffel tower? Bermuda? Mermaids? To Drown?
Christmas is so taut with idealized expectations or bitter realities that sometimes it is nearly impossible to see the beauty, surprise, and miracles that are really there.
